On the left is silk velvet, cotton and some silky see through fabric ( need to study up on types of material) the background fabric is a canvas type fabric which we in South Africa, call bull denim. These peices were dyed with leaves picked from an avocado tree on the compound. The lilac peices on the right were dyed using avo peels, now I don't know if this happened because the avo was well passed it's sell by date or there was something in the material I just don't know. Perhaps your elderberry witch was sitting on the side of the pot. The stippling effect on the background fabric happened when I placed the cloth on the top of the washing maching to dry, there must have been some washing powder crumbs on the top that I did not notice...anyway I quite like the result...

how exciting is that, thanks for showing me. The silk sheer could be silk chiffon. And the gorgeous pink/purple from the avocado is something i can't get yet because it seems to be dependent upon the type of avocado, a Summer ripening one not the Winter hass type which we have now. Have you seen Ger's avocado dye?

Thanks for jogging my memory yes the fabric is silk chiffon, and I got the idea from Gers blog...yes I am going to continue... I want to get hold of a recycled aluminium pot..they are sold on the roadside here and have been recycled from drinking cans...I am hoping some of the alu will disolve into the water...will see
scrub the alum pot a bit, ie rough it up. the alum brings out the yellows and bright colours. you could also try adding some copper bits in there as well - coins, pipe ends etc. another trick i like to do is a large dash of white vinegar - acid tends to bring out the warm colours (reds), while alkaline brings out the cool (blues).
India suggests trying seawater, i'm a long way from the sea so i'm going to get a dipper full of river water...k.
