When it rains in Africa….

….the landscape is transformed over night from brown parched earth to lush greens and reds…..

Collage-002

…these beauties seem to just need to smell the rain and their heads pop out of the dry earth….

can you tell me the name of that orange flower. i think that is what i have. it is a bulb that multiplies each year and is magnificent when it blooms. one bulb was given to me years ago but i do not remember the name of it.

Hi Deanna I think the plant you are referring to is called a "clivia" which is a bulb which multiplies. I am not sure what the plant in the picture is called. I have not seen them before coming here to Sierra Leone. They are just amazing; during the dry season we were watering the bed where they were planted (just a single bulb. we planted five and only five have come up) from the plastic water tank to the right of our house. In all those months not a sign of them....but just after the first heavy rainfall....they made an appearance...
